Week 13 Reading Jataka Tales Part C

The Stolen Jewels: This story is about a monkey who steals a necklace when a slave is asleep. First off I find it to be weird that there are so many monkeys on the palace grounds. I would think of monkeys to be dirty and something that you wouldn't want even close to you as a ruler. Especially with the caste system, I would think they would want anyone not like themselves to be on the grounds unless they are servants. Anyway, 5 of the main people in the palace accept their fate for stealing the necklace even though they didn't. I think they did that because the king was hard to get along with and would be tough. The advisor is smart to realize that the reason for all of them confessing is because they would probably go to jail anyway. He then tricks the monkey to get the necklace out by making all the other monkeys have bad necklaces. Moral of the story is being smart is good and being hasty is bad. Also, get the monkeys out of the palace!

The Too Clever Merchant: This is a short and sweet story about finding out what merchant is wiser. The merchant Wise is not going to be tricked by the merchant Wiser. Wiser thinks he can hide his dad in the tree and take away some of the money. I think it's funny that people would think because of their name they should get more money! Wise stands up for himself and gets what he deserves.

Week 2 Story: The Clown

Marty was just your average 10th grade boy. He loved sports, movies and video games. His favorite hobby though was reading. He had just gotten into horror books. The first one he read was IT by Stephen King. It was really creepy, but Marty knew he would never get over his fear of clowns if he hid from them forever. Unfortunately, for Marty the book did nothing but scare him more. Every night Marty had to walk his dog as one of his chores or else he would not get a car for his 16th birthday. When he was walking his dog he saw something out of the corner of his eye. It was a figure hiding in the trees. He looked and for sure it had to have been a clown!
