Week 7 Story: Impossible Odds
The year was 2035; it had been eight months since talks had broken down between the two new American countries. Tensions were at an all time high and both sides knew that war would be coming soon. The two leaders of each side would never see eye to eye. Captain Gomez knew this. He had been training with his company for the past 2 years as he had predicted the decline of America and wanted to get ready for the war. His company was the most advanced of the entire country. They had been in many "pre-war" missions where they assassinated political opponents, carried out attacks against supply lines and factories.
He looked over his company "Men, we just got word that the real battle is about to start. The enemy's president has sent a message to the capitol. She said that we would all be finished and completely wiped out by her large superior army. That's why General Hyde has instructed us to make a daring attack on the capital at the very start of the war. We have been assigned to take out their president."
Gomez knew that this task would cost the lives of most of his company. Sneaking almost 1000 miles into enemy territory at the start of the war would be near impossible. He knew they had the skill, but lady luck would have to be on their side. Not being detected would be almost impossible. The terrain would be nearly impassible, but that's where the defense would be the weakest. The men were all from the mountainous areas of the old united states. The dead of winter would cause a lot of problems, but time was of the essence.
Gomez told the men to go and have dinner. It wasn't a normal slop dinner that they were used to. tonight they would be having steak and ice cream. A rare treat in the new world. This would be the final hot meal for many of the men, but the task was great and noble. "Eat up boys. We are leaving at 0330. Get some sleep and get ready." Gomez knew that he would not be sleeping much that night and most of his men wouldn't either. The task at hand was dangerous and scary. He was up to it ,though, after all the leader was his ex-wife Art Girl. TBC...
Author's notes: This was based off the story The Armies at Kurukshetra. I tried to keep the part where the armies receive news that the war is about to start. I made Gomez's company part of the smaller force, but they are much more skilled as opposed to the other side. Later in the readings, Amba gets revenge on Bhishma. To kind of work off that point, I am making Gomez's company have the task of taking out the leader of the other side.

Alex,
ReplyDeleteVery cool and thrilling story! I honestly feel like this should have been made into a movie. I kind of put two and two together with waging war between two American countries. I think you an excellent job at keeping your audience in suspense and wanting more. It was surprising when you mentioned the other leader was a female. I definitely think that was my favorite part, because you do not see women in high ranked positions like that. Great job.
Hey Alex! Nice job with this story. I like how you put a modern twist on the battle preparations in the Mahabharata, creating a more relatable setting for the reader. One editing note: In the sentence "tonight they would be having steak..." I believe you meant to capitalize "tonight." Overall, it is very well written! The transitions are smooth and there is an enticing build of excitement.
ReplyDeleteHi Alex! I noticed at the end of your story you said that Gomez's ex wife was Art Girl. Is this the same Art Girl in your previous story? If so is Captain Gomez actually Grayson? I like how you used a military themed story, as military movies and TV shows are becoming more and more popular!
